(Food-Beverage-News.Com, September 24, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - A training technique that was employed by Russia’s cosmonauts has arrived in America. It’s called Whole Body Vibration and although the 10-minute workout might seem similar to a low-impact walk, it is said to offer great results.
One Oklahoma City studio offers WBV, and Juanita Andrews decided to give the program a try. “This is the first place that I really wanted to try that I actually get up the next day and think I want to go back,” she said.
The founder of the studio, Janet Roten, is also a fan of WBV and says it helped her decrease her dress size by four. She said that using the machine 10 minutes a day, three to five times a week, will produce noticeable changes. The positive effects include weight loss, pain relief, and improved sleep.
“In 10 minutes, it does 4,000 to 6,000 involuntary muscle contractions,” Roten explained. “It throws your body off balance a bit and your body is constantly working to keep itself on the machine.”
Andrews is sold on the idea. “I’ve only been doing it for two weeks, but I can tell a difference.” she said. “I have just got so much more energy.”
Roten said the device also can help stroke survivors and patients who are relearning how to walk.
Although some doctors see benefit in the WBV, others remains skeptical, and all users should talk to their physicians before embarking on fitness regimes.
