(Food-Beverage-News.Com, March 05, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to a new survey, having an affair may be a more effective way of shedding the pounds than an actual tailored diet.
More than half of men and nearly 63% of women stated that they had shed pounds following the embankment of an affair, says the Daily Mail.
Apparently, the philandering men lost an average of six pounds, while the women lost nearly 10 pounds on average.
While the survey was carried out by a website that seeks to partner married couple who are seeking affairs should be taken with quite a healthy pinch of salt, the experts state that there are some valid psychological reasons why the unfaithful may be shedding the pounds.
"Engaging in an affair puts an enormous amount of pressure on an individual. Telling lies, avoiding direct confrontations and sneaking around someone's back cause a lot of stress," Craig Jackson, Professor of Psychology at Birmingham City University.
He said that being stressed has a whole range of effects on your body.
"You produce adrenaline and the stress hormone cortisol, your heart rate goes up, your breathe faster, your blood pressure rises and levels of serotonin are increased. All this can burn calories," he said. There are also the behavioral changes that take place when you have an affair.
"When you're up to no good, you're more likely to be rushing from A to B, with less time to eat your lunch or have that extra pint. These things can also affect weight loss," he said.
There is also physical pressures to be considered. Many males seek to be alpha males, and looking good is important to a new lover. Because of that fact, it may add pressures to look a particular way.
"Also the chances are, if you've been married for 20 years, you're probably not having sex that often [and benefiting from the calorie burn that brings]," he added.
