"The use of a muddler can take cocktails to a different level. The art in muddling will bring out the freshness and aromas from herbs, as muddling fruit will give your drinks a big burst of flavor. The muddler can be used for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks," expressed Heather Brinkley, Media Director for Native Spring. "Once you have experienced a cocktail where a muddler was used, there's no going back, its love at first drink."
When muddling fruit or vegetables make sure to wash, peel and seed them before muddling. Always strain these cocktails before serving for best results.
Take watermelon, peaches, berries or other fruits and place them in the pitcher or cocktail shaker. Use the nylon tip of the cocktail muddler to crush the fruit against the bottom and sides of the container until they are a pulpy consistency. Add liquor, ice and other ingredients and shake or stir. Strain into serving glasses.
"Muddling herbs is a delicate business. For many herbs, if you over-muddle they can release a bitter aftertaste that is undesirable. For mint and basil, for instance, try just a few taps with your muddler. For other, heartier herbs such as rosemary, you can use a heavier tap," explained Heather.
One can experiment with flavor combinations until they come up with their favorites. The muddler is dishwasher safe however, hand wash is greatly recommended.
