(Food-Beverage-News.Com, March 20, 2018 ) Canola is derived from rapeseed, and is grown using various traditional plant breeding techniques. These techniques help to lower the erucic acid and glucosinolate content in canola. Canola is also known as double-zero rapeseed in Europe as it contains low erucic acid and glucosinolates. A typical canola seed contains more than 40% oil, which is used as premium edible vegetable oil, and the rest of the content is used as canola meal. Canola meal, therefore, is the by-product that is produced after the extraction of canola oil. Canola meal is used as a feed for poultry, cattle, fish, and swine, mainly as a source of protein. The major producers of canola meal are Canada, Australia, China, the European Union (EU) , and India.
