Parents: Are You Ready for the Flu Season?

(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 13, 2011 ) Even though it is very well known that keeping a thermometer in the house is an effective way to recognize illnesses before they become too severe, only 23% of families have a thermometer in the home.

Over the last year, a group of scientists around the country has been studying the influenza virus. Because this virus is constantly changing and adapting to the environment, it is nearly impossible to create a cure for this common disease. While it is possible to receive an influenza shot to keep the virus at bay, experts agree that there is no way to make yourself yourself 100% safe from infection.

To most adults, the influenza virus is not a cause for major concern. Because they have a more established immune system, it is generally a fairly easy task for the body to fend off the disease before it becomes a serious health issue. Instead, the two groups that is most at risk from influenza and the common cold virus are young children and the elderly. Because their immune systems are not fully developed or are weakened due to age, it is not uncommon for these age groups to develop critical health conditions due to a common virus.

Even though many adults do realize that their loved ones are at risk, only 23% of these families keep a thermometer in their home. This is a serious issue because a thermometer is one of the best ways to quickly detect the presence of any type of disease. This is especially true in the younger and older generations, as their body temperatures will change more easily than that of an adult.

Doctors are concerned about this new trend. Many of them call it “complete carelessness”, as they view a thermometer as an inexpensive but effective means to help detect the presence of a virus in the early stages. Because a simple thermometer can be purchased for less than $10, their opinion is that every single household should have at least one thermometer nearby at all times. Even if there are no children or elderly in the home, a thermometer is a useful tool in preventive medicine.

Despite what many might believe, there are actually a number of different thermometers on the market for sale. The Braun Thermoscan Ear Thermometer is to be used on any age to quickly record body temperature. This is the best type to purchase to identify illnesses early. If you have a baby, you may want to consider a baby thermometer which would be more comfortable for the little one.

For more information on the best thermometer for your household, consider the website http://laserthermometerhq.com/. In addition to thermometers to record body temperature, this site sells a number of other makes and models. Each type is used for a specific purpose, but most of them are not for the body. For example, a laser thermometer is pinpoint accurate for a small area but should not be used to take a personÂ’s temperature. A candy thermometer is used to measure the temperature of candy while it is being cooked.
