(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 22, 2008 ) Santa Cruz, CA - “Start your creative engines,” says Linda J. Welsh, founder and owner of WelshSpirit Coffee Company in announcing a contest to name its coffee-loving dragon mascot. The six-year-old gourmet coffee company, based in Santa Cruz, California, has showcased a cute but nameless animated version of the dragon from the flag of Wales since its founding. The person who submits the winning name for the dragon character, as selected by a distinguished panel of judges, receives two pounds of WelshSpirit coffee free every month for a year (www.RabbitsRunJava.com).
”For six years our mascot has been known simply as ‘the little dragon guy.’ He’s earned the right to have a name of his own,” says Ms. Welsh. “Our dragon is exceptionally intelligent and well-informed. He likes to start his mornings with his feet propped up, sipping a mug of steaming hot WelshSpirit Coffee while reading the newspaper. We’re looking for a name for him that rolls off the tongue without being too trendy and that has widespread geographical appeal, since we sell coffee to many corners of the world.”
Anyone wanting to enter the contest can receive the official rules by filling out the form at http://www.rabbitsrunjava.com/dragoncontest.php. The deadline for entries is May 20, 2008 and contestants may enter as many names as they like. Judges for the contest consist of nine creative business owners and celebrities from all over the U.S.
The WelshSpirit Coffee Company sells 14 gourmet varietal roasts representing all the major coffee growing regions in the world, as well as 15 lightly flavored coffees that contain “grace notes” of flavor instead of heavy syrup flavorings. Inspired by the practice of home brewers adding coffee when they brew dark beer, WelshSpirit perfected a process that adds the flavor and aroma of brewing malt grains to coffee. The company donates 10% of its profits to Alzheimer’s research.
