(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 24, 2011 ) Seattle, WA -- According to a survey by the American College of Sports Medicine, one of the top 10 fitness trends for 2011 is fitness bootcamp training. Although these sessions have traditionally been held in parks and other outdoor settings, todayÂ’s bootcamp consumer has many different workout options depending on their needs. ThatÂ’s according to Rachel Shannon, owner of the recently launched Fitness Bootcamp Classes website.
“Many people are trading in their gym memberships for the sweat equity that fitness bootcamp workouts deliver,” said Shannon. “Bootcamp sessions are built on a foundation of simple exercises, but you get a variety of them. Users are working their entire body, which allows them to burn calories, strengthen muscles and gain stamina that a regular gym workout often can’t compete with.”
As the fitness bootcamp training trend continues to grow in popularity, so does the number of trainers and groups. Shannon offers these three tips for choosing the right one for you:
* Choose instructors that have credentials, not just a love of the sport. Bootcamps should be led by instructors who have some type of personal training certification through an organization like the National Academy of Sports Medicine or the American Fitness Professionals & Associates. According to Shannon, certified instructors have the technical knowledge to offer more structured sessions.
* Look for groups that match your specific health needs. Depending on your community you may have access to men’s bootcamps, bootcamps for brides-to-be, pre-pregnancy bootcamps and of course, weight loss bootcamps. “You should also discuss any health problems or special needs before you sign your name on the dotted line,” said Shannon.
* Make sure your nutritional needs are met. Shannon believes exercise is only one part of the bootcamp experience. “Instructors should also teach participants how to eat properly while they’re training. Then it becomes a whole health experience.”
