(Food-Beverage-News.Com, December 17, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Breanna Bond has had a problem with weight nearly since she was born.
By kindergarten, California native Breanna weighed 100 pounds and had trouble playing with her friends because she simply could not keep up. On top of her physical detriment, Breanna’s mental fortitude was tested as she began to get bullied at school and lose friends over her weight.
By the time she was nine years old, Breanna weighed a whopping 186 pounds. After visiting countless doctors who told Breanna that she would grow into her body and that there were no obvious health problems that were causing such excessive weight gain, her parents decided that something needed to be done for the sake of their child’s life.
Breanna’s father, Dan Bond, created a strict exercise plan for the youngster in which she would walk four miles everyday rain or shine in order to help her lose weight. Breanna’s mother told Good Morning America that the family would walk together no matter the time of day, weather conditions, or how anybody was feeling.
After visible results from the walking, Breanna began adding more exercises to her regimen. She would walk on the treadmill for at least an hour everyday and even started playing basketball and swimming at the local gym. In under a year, Breanna lost 66 pounds and while she is still overweight, things are looking up for the nine year old. According to Breanna, “I can just move more.”
Breanna’s mother, Heidi Bond, spoke proudly of her daughter when they visited Good Morning America, saying that her daughter is not only an inspiration to her family, but also to any other children out there in the world struggling with weight. Mrs. Bond also offered tips for families dealing with overweight children saying, “Start as soon as possible, exercise and enforce healthy eating habits.”
The growing problem of obesity in America is one that while rampant, can be avoided with a little discipline and proper education. As more and more children begin to find themselves overweight at an early age, it is up to their parents to enforce some healthy guidelines. When you are dealing with the life of a child, you need to take things seriously because weight can lead to other health problems that can ultimately affect the well-being of a child as they grow older.
Heidi Bond said of her daughter, “She is an inspiration to the world and all children who are having weight issues across America, that you can do it with a pair of tennis shoes and motivation.”
