(Food-Beverage-News.Com, April 16, 2013 ) Dothan, AL -- The Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) is a non-profit organization and adoption agency that has created tremendous assistance programs to benefit the Mobile, Alabama community. Established in 1979, BARC! was the first and remains as the only county-wide animal welfare agency in Baldwin County. Through the education, rescue, adoption and spay/neuter programs they offer, BARC! hopes to greatly reduce, if not eliminate, the number of abused and abandoned pets in Baldwin County.
Regular Year-Round Spay/Neuter Voucher Program –BARC! provides a low cost spay/neuter program. Discount vouchers are available to all Baldwin County residents who rescue or adopt a homeless animal, regardless of their income, in order to minimize pet over-population and reduce euthanasia as a means of animal control.
NOTE: Some participating vets may require additional fees for vaccinations, office visit fees and post-surgical pain medication, etc., so participants in the program should inquire about additional fees prior to making an appointment. A mail-in application for the voucher can be found on their website under “Programs/Spay and Neuter.”
Pet Pantry - BARC! has partnered with local community food banks to provide the regions first pet food pantry. Ensuring that pets receive the proper nutrients they need is one of the most basic and critical aspects of animal welfare. Many families have to make the tough decision to give up their pets because they can't afford to feed both their families and pets. However, with the help of this program, having to make that decision is no longer necessary. Each week families and individuals within the local community donate all types of pet food including both dry and canned food for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.
Pawsitive Therapy – Pawsitive Therapy is a pet therapy program that takes place in assisted living and nursing home facilities in Baldwin County. Volunteers with their friendly pets visit the elderly to reap the numerous health and wellness benefits of animal exposure and to brighten their day.
