2013 Hottest Diet Trends: Detox, HCG, Vegetarian, Gluten-Free

(Food-Beverage-News.Com, June 02, 2013 ) Sydney, Australia -- According to the nation’s leading dieticians, doctors, and restaurant managers, there are more weight loss diets than ever before. They explain three of the most popular diet trends of this year and explained what they do for the body.

The number one trend from dietician Jenni Klufa is a detox. She hears about different kinds of detoxes from her clients almost every day. As Nutrition Services Director for Sky Fitness, she decided to create her own detox for her clients, rather than approve a plan for a client that she didn't necessarily think was the right way to cleanse.

Klufa created a 10-day detox that begins with a two-day fast on water mixed with lemon, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Then, juices, vegetables and fruits are slowly added back in the diet, and eventually meats, dairy and grains are put back into the diet as well over those 10 days.

Shannon Headley, one of Klufa’s clients, lost five pounds and says it helped retrain her brain to think healthy. "Overall, I thought it was a very good experience."

The second most popular diet in 2013 right now is going vegetarian or gluten-free. Gluten is a protein composite found in foods processed from wheat and related grain species, including barley and rye. Many people believe it affects the digestive system negatively, and it does for those who have Celiac Disease. Nearly anything can be made vegetarian or gluten-free, by using vegetables and fruit as replacements, as well as substituting regular flour for almond or flax seed flour, which don’t contain gluten.

The HcG diet is a combination of a low calorie diet and injections of the hormone HCG. HCG is a hormone produced by the body when a woman becomes pregnant. It is only found in the body when a woman is pregnant or a man has a certain type of testicular cancer. While it’s been on the market and very popular for years, Chiropractic Physician Dr. Rebecca Ward says it's still the most requested.
