Tea Education Becomes Hot Certification Choice

(Food-Beverage-News.Com, October 14, 2013 ) Tokyo, Japan -- As tea has become all the rage in North America, places such as the World Tea Academy and American Tea Masters Association now offer an online certification in the field. Participants can study at home or at the office. It can potentially open the door for new career opportunities, increase one's recognition in an industry related to tea, or aid in building trust with clients and customers.

As new tea shops open up offering a variety of loose leaf teas, learning about the many types of tea and the benefits they offer is becoming more popular with many people.

The World Tea Academy is run by World Tea Media and led by Donna Fellman, a professional tea educator. Several different certifications are now available, including Certified Tea Specialist, Certified Tea Professional, Certified Tea Sommelier, and Certified Tea Health Expert. Not only has tea become popular to drink, but also to learn about as the industry has boomed over the past few years. This is all during a time when most industries have experienced the economic downturn first hand.

Available to U.S. or international students, numerous classes are upcoming and can be registered for online. Essentials of Camellia Sinensis covers the basics of the plant and what makes it the source of hundreds of different teas. Stages of processing and the six types of tea are covered in Tea Enhancements and Grading Systems. Another course builds one's knowledge of tea in China, Japan, and Taiwan, while a fourth explores tea production in India, Sri Lanka, and Kenya.

The American Tea Masters Association offers both a classroom and online course which is 14 weeks long and covers things such as preparation and serving, philosophy, taste-testing protocols, etc. The course is comprised of two parts with part one focusing on mastering tea while part two focuses on mastering taste.

A look at the course syllabus shows that everything is covered in detail. In addition to learning about the different teas and their preparation, the course also goes into detail on things such as multiple steepings, pairing food with tea, and even how to ask key questions and educate a guest or customer.

Knowledge of tea's health benefits, a rise in popularity, and a new industry centered on tea in North America has made it a staple. Also, products such as Coolahoo’s Premium Tea Infuser make it easier to prepare. The stainless steel mesh maximizes the taste and health value, while the product is easy to load, clean, and use with any mug or cup. If enjoyment rather than education is the top priority, then the product is a great choice.
