Each mold is two inches in diameter, with a small hole in the top to allow water to be added. Once the ice sphere is frozen, the mold pulls apart so the ice can be removed. "This two-piece construction is easy to use, and incredibly functional," says Mr. Gagnon. "The shape and size of the molds make the ice melt slower. Drinks chilled with ice spheres stay cold and flavorful much longer than those chilled with ice cubes."
Although the molds make ice cubes, Mr. Gagnon hopes that customers will think creatively when using the product. "There's so much you can do with the Bobu molds; they don't just make ice!" he explains. "The molds are big enough that they can be filled up with fruit slices, juices, or even frozen yogurt. We include lots of ideas and recipes with every purchase, and the molds are incredibly versatile.
