A Whiskey Stone Review - Soapstone Whiskey Rock Vs Stainless Steel Whiskey Stones

How to use Great White Ice whiskey stones

(Food-Beverage-News.Com, June 23, 2014 ) Sudbury, Ontario -- What are Whiskey Stones?

Whiskey stones, also referred to as, whiskey rocks or whiskey cubes are a way to chill a drink without using ice cubes. There are various types currently on the market, including those made of soapstone, marble, glass and recently stainless steel was added to the mix. They are not meant as a replacement for ice cubes and they are not as cold as ice, but what they offer in return, is a way to enjoy the true taste of a chilled whiskey, without a diluted taste. How long they last and how long they must be frozen for depends on what type you are buying.

Soapstone Whiskey Rocks

Unfortunately, as stated in many reviews, using rocks to chill a drink is not the ideal solution, for the majority of whiskey drinkers, but was previously the only alternative. Whiskey rocks made of soapstone are normally quite small in size usually 3/4" to account for the weight and because they are made from rock, they can crack, break, scratch and cannot be put in the dishwasher. The extra long freezing time required (4-6 hours), for the minimal difference that they make in the temperature of a drink, left many whiskey lovers disappointed and wishing for something more effective.

A Superior Whiskey Stone

Taking into account all the negative issues relating to using a rock in your drink, Great White Ice whiskey stones were developed using advanced Eco-friendly technology. They are instead, made from a high grade of stainless steel and contain a chilling gel in the center of each cube, thus eliminating all the concerns presented from soapstone whiskey rocks.

High grade stainless steel, contains natural antibacterial and anti-corrosion properties and has been used in the medical and food industries for decades. These stainless steel ice cubes will never stain, rust and are dishwasher safe. The non-toxic chilling gel in the center of each cube, gives them not only a cooling advantage, but they also only require minimal freezing time (1-2 hours).

They were also designed with size in mind. They are 1" cubes, which is slightly bigger, but still lighter, then those made from soapstone. They have multiple uses, they can be used as, drink stones, wine stones or scotch rocks and they can be used in any alcoholic or regular beverage.

Among their many other benefits, they are 100% environmentally safe, odorless, tasteless and they will not retain tastes or smells from other items in close proximity. Although, they are still not as cold as ice, as stated in many reviews from those who have used both, Great White Ice stainless steel whiskey stones stay colder much longer, than those made of soapstone.
