Vermont Food Company Launches Nourishment Campaign

What Will Feed & Nourish You?

(Food-Beverage-News.Com, July 29, 2014 ) Norwich, VT -- A Vermont company has launched a new marketing campaign revolving around the concept of nourishment.

Yummy Yammy, maker of sweet potato based salsas, considers its salsas to be highly nutritious and nourishing, particularly for those working grinding jobs in cities.

"It's so stressful," claims Lisa Johnson, founder of the company and head of marketing. "The commute, the pollution, the deadlines, the downsizing. And since our salsa provides so much more nutrition than other salsas, we know we can help."

Ironically, Johnson lives in bucolic Vermont, far from the cities her campaign is designed to reach.

"Life here in Vermont is pretty peaceful," she acknowledges. "But everyone feels stress in life, and all of us need nourishing food to get through it. And what passes for 'food' out there is hardly even made from food any more. To handle whatever stresses our lives dish out, we need good, hearty, nourishing food."

The salsas Johnson makes compare favorably to traditional tomato-based salsas. There are 25 calories in two tablespoons, compared to a typical 10-20 calories for tomato-based salsas and 35-40 for cheese- or avocado-based salsas. Sodium in the yam salsas is lower than almost all tomato salsas on the market, and they have more Vitamin C than most. There is also a slight amount of B6 and potassium that doesn't appear in the tomato ones.

However, the most surprising nutritional fact is that two tablespoons of Johnson's sweet potato salsas represents 50% of a person's daily recommended Vitamin A, compared to a typical 2% in tomato salsas.

"Sweet potato is such a nutritional powerhouse," explains Johnson, "and coupled with the naturally delicious taste of our flame-roasted sweeties, it makes the perfect salsa base."

Because the sweet potato salsas have no tomato, they appear thicker than a typical tomato salsa, and customers on the Yummy Yammy website attest to its rich flavor. Surprisingly, however, there are fewer grams of sugars than most tomato salsas, and a serving has only 5 total carbohydrates.

"So, for very few calories, you can have a rich, fantastic tasting salsa that's packed with nutrition, to help you get through a hectic day," boasts Johnson. "Try it on your eggs, lunch wraps, quesadillas, burgers, even on salads."

The salsas are available through Whole Foods Markets and on Amazon.com (search: sweet potato salsa).
