(Food-Beverage-News.Com, October 02, 2014 ) Oakland, CA -- Done with the survey and its results in the past weeks, Finesseur has now published the complete information relating to its observational study on its website and Facebook page, so visitors can analyze for themselves if hand dominance—being right-handed or left-handed—has an effect on becoming a great chef.
Finesseur, maker of the Finesseur digital kitchen scale and the Finesseur ceramic knife, conducted a study of 30 renowned chefs of various origins and specializations to determine which specific hand user dominates the industry. The company reviewed several videos of these experts while they are in action in the kitchen, handling several utensils and showing their own techniques.
As it turned out, 28 of the slated chefs are right-handed, while only two are left-handed. Chef Gordon James Ramsay and Chef Heston Blumenthal are the arguably unique ones. However, looking at the fame status of the 30 chefs, it was evident that each has his or her own brand of fame, either by authoring a book, popularizing a cuisine or cooking technique, hosting a cooking series, or making television appearances.
Despite the fact that right-handers outnumber the left-handers 28 to 2, it was interesting to note that each side of the study has its own famous chef. As noted by Finesseur spokesperson Allison Montgomery in her comment last week, both Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay are considered top chefs worldwide, contending for the top spot in many lists online.
"We are surprised by the results of this study," says Ms. Montgomery, "because, although there are many right-handers, each hand user category is still represented by a highly renowned chef."
She also pointed out that the results are motivational and educational, especially for students and home cooks who are pursuing a professional culinary career, and just happen to be left-handed. She says: "With this simple study, it has been proven that the state of the body is not as influential as the desires of the heart and mind. Wanting to serve good food to any number of people is enough motivation for becoming a good chef."
The complete details of the study are now available on Finesseur's website blog and Facebook fan page.
