Mister Kitchenware Spokesperson On How Safe Silicone Bakeware Is

(Food-Beverage-News.Com, November 11, 2014 ) Chattanooga, Tennessee -- Metal and glass have gradually given way to a new kind of bakeware. It is kind of obvious to see a lot of muffin pans, spatulas, Bundt pans and cupcake liners with different bright colors and non-stick smooth surface made from silicone.

Although silicone is most usually related to plastic surgery, silicone bakeware is deemed safe and comes with plenty of advantages over glass and metal. Chris Moal, Mister Kitchenware spokesperson, shares how safe the bakeware is and what to look for in silicone bakeware.

Moal says, "Maybe a lot of you have heard of the many advantages of silicone bakeware and you may think that this new kitchen implement sounds too good to be true. So, "Where's the catch?", you may say. Well, silicone bakeware can be safe but there are some that are not. It is just a matter of choosing good quality silicone over others."

According to Moal, the FDA has approved the safety of silicone in 1979. Silicone bakeware is created from bonded oxygen and silicon and silicone used in bakeware is inert, which means it will not react to substances and certain temperature. It is not toxic and also will not harm the food whether you bake, freeze or heat on it. Although a few have reported oils and dyes getting into food, there are no official reports or safety issues regarding silicone bakeware.

But there is something to look out for in some silicone bakeware. Experts and reviewers of silicone bakeware have warned of silicone that has fillers – substances that cause unpleasant odors to leak and stick into food.

One way to determine if a silicone bakeware contains fillers is by pinching or twisting it. When some white lines show through the silicone, it should come with fillers. Stop using the product and look for food grade silicone bakeware. For those with chemical sensitivities, avoiding silicone bakeware may be avoided since this product has not been researched on a lot.
