(Food-Beverage-News.Com, June 16, 2015 ) Greenwich, Connecticut -- Gourmet Living, a recently formed company located in Greenwich, Connecticut, has just introduced its first product under the Gourmet Living label. The Italian consortium has approved the sourcing and labeling of Gourmet Living's premium brand of balsamic vinegar of Modena.
The vinegar has been barrel-aged in Modena and consists primarily of wine must and some aged wine vinegar which imparts the agro-dolce flavor of authentic Italian balsamic vinegar. Gourmet Living co-owner, Sheila May, remarks that "we have taken considerable care in choosing an established producer who shares our values in providing the consumer with a premium product at an affordable price."
This premium balsamic vinegar is sold exclusively to buyers in the United States and Canada through Amazon.com. With its distinctive label and gold-leaf box, balsamic vinegar makes a delightful alternative to traditional gift-giving as a hostess gift. Adds Sheila, "I would much prefer to receive a bottle of Italian-certified balsamic vinegar than a bottle of wine. In fact, I think that most hosts would prefer something a little more unique than the traditional bottle of wine."
Balsamic vinegar is made from heating Trebbiano and/or Lambrusco grapes in an open vat for anywhere from 24 to 36 hours. The concentrated syrup is then allowed to cool and then aged in a battery of open barrels for a number of years. Each year about two-thirds of the concentrated wine must is transferred to a series of even smaller barrels.
Traditional balsamic vinegar or "DOP Aceto Balsamico" is 100% wine must and is available in distinctive bottles of only 100 ml. Traditional or DOP balsamic vinegar is only sold in two clearly-defined vintages: 12 and 25 years. Gourmet Living's IGP balsamic vinegar consists of a high percentage of wine must plus a smaller percentage of aged wine vinegar. This balsamic vinegar is sold in 250 ml bottles, but is considerably less expensive than traditional balsamic vinegar which sells for no less than $100 for a 100 ml bottle!
"Balsamic vinegar and olive oil are on the table at most Italian restaurants," says Sheila. "The versatility of this vinegar makes everything from vegetables to meat courses taste better. In fact, it has become an essential condiment in most gourmet kitchens."
