(Food-Beverage-News.Com, May 16, 2016 ) Crystalaire, CA -- This week The Artful Homemaker created a video demonstrating how to sharpen their Multi-Tasking Kitchen Shears that are available to purchase on Amazon.com. The video can be found on YouTube.
"Last week I got a message from a customer.", owner of The Artful Homemaker, Dale Glass said. "She said she had been using the shears for a few months and wanted to sharpen them up a bit. She had used an electric sharpener that sharpens both sides at the same time." So she decided to make this how-to video.
Kitchen shears need to be hand sharpened because each side of the shear has a different angle. If you try to use a double-sided electric sharpen, you may ruin the blades. In the video they demonstrate the use of a sharpening stone and a steel.
"It is important to find a sharpening steel that has a slip-resistant handle and fits comfortably in the hand.", explains Philip Glass, who is demonstrating sharpening in the video. "Sharpening stones are easy to find on Amazon.com and are traditional way to sharpen knives. They can be used to sharpen almost any item."
These particular shears are a top selling brand on Amazon.com, apparently based on the multi-use factor – these shears offer 8 utensils in this one product, including a nut cracker, bottle opener, peeler and more. Their classy black and grey color sets them apart from many of the other shears offered on the website.
"Use a Sharpening Stone which is the best (knife sharpening) method by far. Not only will it give you the best edge, it also removes the least amount of material.", says J. Kenji López-Alt, who is the Managing Culinary Director of Serious Eats, and author of the James Beard Award-nominated column "The Food Lab".
He continues, "After sharpening, hone your blade on a honing steel in order to get the edge in alignment, then test it for sharpness."
